The cow's reproductive tract is examined for response to FSH, and the cow is given a caudal epidural to eliminate straining during the flush.
A Foley catheter is placed in the cow's uterine body, then an air bubble is expanded to prevent fluid from exiting through the cervix.
Two valves are used to allow fluid to flow from a bag into the cow's uterus, then from the uterus into a filter that holds the embryos.
A microscope is used to search for embryos. There is often mucus and debris present.
All embryos are set aside in a small dish for washing and staging/grading.
Embryos are closely examined to determine stage (maturity) and grade (quality).
Embryos are loaded into individual straws for freezing or transfer.
Each embryo is labeled with information regarding the embryo stage and grade, as well and donor and sire registration information.
Applied when donors are NOT on a current flush program; either between flushes, or after a flush for observation and breeding

Donor housing includes daily care and feeding as well as management of superovulation, breeding, and flushing. A reproductive exam is performed on all donors prior to CIDR insertion. Donors are on site for approximately 31 days minimum, and can be picked up immediately following the flush or can stay on site for heat observation and breeding post-flush for an additional daily fee. Embryos are typically frozen, but fresh transfers can be scheduled as well.
